KommKonzert “The Peacemakers” – Engelberg Abbey Choir
The Engelberg Abbey Choir can look back on a centuries-old tradition. The monks of Engelberg have been cultivating choral singing since the monastery was founded in 1120. Today, monks, pupils of the monastery school and singing enthusiasts from Engelberg and the surrounding area compose a wide variety of musical works. Ruth Mory-Wigger, the monastery’s music director, attaches great importance to cultivating musical diversity.
Women and men from Engelberg and the surrounding area who are enthusiastic singers sing together with the monks of the monastery and with pupils from the Engelberg Collegiate School. A choir that unites different generations, nations and religions. Its primary task is to provide a solemn musical setting for various church services. As different as the active members of the choir are, as different is the literature that is rehearsed.
A large part of the choir’s work is done with various project choirs. Guest singers are always welcomed for this temporary work on various works. The varied programme through the church year allows the Stiftschor to be heard as an ensemble, as a chamber choir or as a large eight-part choir.
Give peace a voice!
Together with the Abbey Choir, tune into the work “The Peacemakers” by Karl Jenkins and raise your own voice for peace. The Engelberg Abbey Choir was encouraged to do this by “TimeDate – Music for Peace”.
This concert in Engelberg will also feature portraits of peacemakers, compiled and performed by pupils of the Engelberg Abbey School.
